The new DayCare center in South Africa

In the townships in South Africa, many children are in preschool without appropriate care. Care for Kids has therefore taken over the construction of the day care center "Tukelo DayCare" in Orange Farm township near Johannesburg. Our project partner is the South African organization JAM (Joint Aid Management, www.jam-deutschland.org . Due to great interest from the M+W employees, a team was drawn from 16 volunteers. This left on 29 September 2012 for a memorable week to South Africa.

They reported not only from hard work under hot sun and an interesting group dynamics in the team, but also of new impressions of a land full of contrasts between rich and poor, the friendly reception in the "JAM base" of the local organization (where the team in simple bungalows was accomodated), visits to a safari park and an apartheid memorial and then the crowning glory of the handover of the finished set up day-care center for the children and parents, with emotional reactions on both sides.

Well, in March 2013, it was possible for Sabine Wenz of JAM Deutschland to visit the project. Here are excerpts from the mail, she sent us after her return:

A very happy "Mama" Pauline welcomed me. The kids just took a nap on the comfortable mattresses. All the buildings and the whole area, are in a perfectly clean condition. As you can see in the pictures, the planted grass has grown well even in the hot summer. The kitchen is still a very special treasure of "Mama" Pauline. The shelves are beautifully decorated and fully acknowledged

The number of children who now attend kindergarten every day has risen to 46. That is 20 more than before. "Mama" Pauline visited additional training every Saturday, which she enjoys and the children will benefit. She looks happy and relaxed. She sends greetings and heartfelt thanks to all makeover participants and Care for Kids!

Care for Kids is grateful for the support of the project by the companies of the M+W Group, the staff of JAM International in South Africa and Germany, and of course to the volunteers. We are very pleased that we were able to achieve so much with our support.
